Council C-Red website - find resources for saving carbon

 

Energy companies - many have energy saving giveaways

 

Getting messages out to community

6000 houses in Brookhurst with no shops or other facilities

except Delamere Centre

Importance of library to community

 

Information overload for people wanting to take some environmental action

How do we do it?

Run an audit of current activity / available actions

31st May Community Day - run by Churches Together Bromborough and Eastham

Hoping to get all local groups involved; sports, hobbies, social etc

Local business

There is a twice yearly leaflet drop by the churches - could advertise in that

Communication with Council - three councillors are supportive of Transition Village Eastham

 

Encourage cycling

There is a grant for opening up riverside - Eastham - New Ferry - could this include cycle lanes

Cycle lanes - council spends £200 000 a year on cycle routes

Local Development Framework

Consultation - do we have a vision? Are we given real options in this consultation?

Peel Holdings have a big influence

Eastham Port - this is potentially on the plans

Buffer zone - can we maintain a no-development zone around Eastham

Open green space

Agriculture and food - at the moment is ignored in the plan - can we emphasise the economic importance?

Food growing

Food shops and co-ops / support the farmers market

Big cycle ride - critical mass style - encourage people to cycle

Meet Transition Town West Kirby at Thornton Haugh for a picnic 30th June

7% of budget (council?) is spent on cycling and walking

but this may include teaching about the dangers of cars (should this be in this budget?)

other countries spend 40%

could we spend 50% for one year at least, just to get the ball rolling, improve cycle routes etc

Chester have finished their Local Development Plan, includes cycling - is worth looking at - check their website

Join Wirral 20 is plenty campaign to introduce 20mph limits on all residential roads
